Steelers owner Rooney will make first official trip as U.S. Ambassador to Ireland

According to the State Department, Steelers owner Dan Rooney is traveling to Dublin on Thursday, one day after he was sworn in as U.S. ambassadorby Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

Rooney is scheduled to meet with Ireland President Mary McAleese on Friday and present his credentials. Then he will be officially recognized as the Irish ambassador. The first duty of the new ambassador is to attend a Friday luncheon at the American Chamber of Commerce in Ireland.

As a lifelong Republican, Rooney backed President Barack Obama during Pennsylvania's Democratic presidential primary and campaigned for Obama in the western part of the state last year.Write For Pay
